Pictures of spring

it seems that spring has arrived here...and I tried to catch him:

nothing sewing-related to post today so I wanted to share with you this beautiful day.

WIP - Sherlock Holmes meets Miss Moneypenny

I have finished!
Please have a look:

Last weekend I sewed the lining for the jacket. I am always surprised how long it takes in the end, since I planned to finish it on Sunday but that did not work.
I also sewed the buttonholes for the skirt and attached 4 perfectly fitting buttons.

I merged jacket and lining. Whenever it comes to finish a garment I really love this step. Lining makes all those stitches, interfacing, threads and messy stuff disappear and just shows the bright shining of itself. I attached all facings to the lining and turned over the whole garment through an opening in the side-seam of the lining. That was quite easy. I used to hand-sew the bottom-line before, but this way is really an alternative.

I glued the hem of the skirt with my favourite tool Saumfix, wich is a double side fusible interfacing, which can be used instead of seaming invisible stitches in no time. Afterwards I serged the lining with a rolled hem.

For the last embellishment I have been waiting for 2 months now. I send some nice tulle to a Pleating-company in Cologne which was the nearest one I could find via www...( Since they were not really reliable I will not mention their name, but I would never choose them again...). I received my fabric back after several reminders and phonecalls. This was a not-so-nice experience.
Nevertheless I wanted to have this as a finish and you now can see the result.

Ich habe fertig!
Schaut mal hier:

Nun ja, alles in allem keine schöne Erfahrung.

WIP - Sherlock Holmes meets Miss Moneypenny

I did not have much time to sew this week, but all the same I made a little progress with my project. I sewed the sleeves together and inserted them to the bodice. However, I missed to take a picture of that step. I cutted some sleeve heads out of wadding interfacing and attached them to the sleeve-seam:

I still have to buy fusible interfacing for the jacket, so no further progress there. I cut out the lining I bought last Saturday and sewed the lining for the skirt and inserted it. That was really easy. I especially like the closure. It looks very professional with the lining and a little vintage since it will be finished with 4 buttons ( which I also still have to select..).

I really love the colour of the lining, a really bright rasperry pink. I hope I can find a jersey with that colour for a nice shirt to complete this combination...

I really hope that I will be able to finish the Sherlock-Moneypenny by this weekend. Except one final step - what this means I am going to tell you as soon as I have received a mysterious order.....so, be curious.

Saturday I made a hobby-excursion: I went to a fair, called "The Hobbyhorse" where everything you can imagine related to creative crafting is exhibited. I went there by train and had a very detailed look around:

Many exhibitors, starting from bead-crafting to patchwork, from napkin-techiques, card-making, knitting with giant "Strickliesels" wanted to inform you about their products and sell them. I tried to catch some nice beads but the stand was totally overcrowded and the staff obviously did not want to sell much since they were not very cooperative to help you...

Some people showed miniature-living, like this nice house, for example:

One house even showed a sewing room, but as you might see the ladies are not sewing for fun:

A very vintage feeling comes up by watching this nice fabric store:

Ok - I saw many things which might be nice but nothing for me to try out.
The main reason to visit the fair was the big fabric market in the second area of the hall:
Doesn´t this look exciting to a heavy addicted fabricoholic ?

Oh yeah - many stands with nice fabrics at reasonable prices....
This is what I bought:

From left to right:

A very nice viscose in dark brown with cream-white dots ( everybody knows surely "Pretty Woman"...), a light batist with pinkish flowers- perfect for a blouse, 2 pieces of suede in caramel-brown, jersey in fuchsia-cream stripes with cream jersey for a polo-shirt, orange very knice merino-knit and tow colours lining for 2,-- per meter. Above that I bought bought nice fabrics for my mother, a very nice ring and a nice hat and also a nice flower decoration for my home.

WIP - Sherlock Holmes meets Miss Moneypenny

just a short update for my WIP, I am several steps further and will post it step by step since I did not take pictures of the current status. And since it was my birthday yesterday with beautiful wheather I did not do anything sewing related, although I received lots of nice presents, many of them sewing related ( thank you again, my beloved :-))
Last week I finished the bodice part of the jacket, my "Emma" is showing here that the sleeve area is a little too wide:

I also tried and basted the puffed sleeves. I think this looks really nice, what do you mean ?

WIP - Sherlock Holmes meets Miss Moneypenny

I made a little progress....
Since I consider the jacket to be too less embellished I tried a nice rose-embroidery I bought here .
I wanted to repeat the colours of the roses printed on the fabric for the skirt.

I hope I will be able to continue tonight a little bit, so, stay tuned....

WIP - Sherlock Holmes meets Miss Moneypenny

Hi folks,
I am back from my short holiday break and I started my current WIP.... Browsing my favourite fabric web-stores I found two corresponding flanells and immediately thought: Whow, this would be a very nice costume, with a knee-long, wider skirt and a nice jacket.
Second thought was, hm - something reminds me of the capes Sherlock Holmes is wearing in several movies or comics and so the title was born. I ordered some metres and, as usual, put it to the stash for some months, just to get used to it. I am sewing this Burda Skirt ( I will add the pic later, I already deleted it on my camera ) and will use the fabric with the roses, trying for the first time a flatlock-seam.
This turned out very nice, with fitting threads it gives the right sporty element to the quite sophisticated fabric.

The skirt is very easy to sew, using the flatlock I finished the cutting-out and 4 seams in 1 hour. Now I still have to buy the lining and buttons and the skirt will be finished.
For the jacket I will use this pattern from a Knipmode.

Since I would like to have a puffed sleeve I combined it with a Burda pattern and added some pleats to the sleeve-heads.
I want to add a velvet ribbon around the front edges and the collar.

Hallo, liebe Leser,
