Working Girl - 1

It is time for my new project - working girl. I want to test one of the free download patterns from Burdastyle, model "Laura". My fabric is a grey light wool with small black velvet dots on the right side. I really like the combination of clear simple patterns with feminine fabric and of course vice-versa.

Since I am not really used to download patterns all that cutting and glueing of the single sheets was a new experience for me. Also to work with normal printer paper is not as convenient as foil or thin paper sheets but ok, there are many nice patterns on burdastyle and -they are for free, which is really good. Another different thing for me is that all SAsare included in the pattern, compared to all other Burda patterns.

Since I do a lot thread tracing I would like to give a little information about this technique although it is really simple. To trace all marks, darts etc. I use "Reihgarn", which is a cotton thread, slightly thicker than usual sewing thread, but weaker.

I trace small loops with my thread, following the lines for example front, pocket lines, facing lines. I place one loop each 0,5 cm. The fabric lies in the fold so that each part is automatically cut twice.
Open both layers carefully until the loop is flat on the left side, a kind of bridge is shown on the right side . Just cut all bridges and the result are accurate marked lines on both sides of the fabric. One tip: to remove them after sewing I use tweezers.

Can't wait to see your dress coming to life Katrin, I love the fabric you chose!
I didn't know that the patterns from Burdastyle had SAs, which is a big plus for me!! Thank you for the heads up.

Great post on thread tracing! I use the same special purpose cotton thread too, here we call it "alinhavo".

Have a nice evening, Katrin!

Guten Morgen, Katrin,
LG, berry
